The video above, from the author of the book “Am I a Christian?,” asks an important question. Should you join a church? At FBC Henryville we believe that all Christians should be actively connected with the ministry of a local church. If you are not already actively engaged in the ministry of a church we hope that you will consider whether or not God desires you to join with us for the service and proclamation of the gospel.
Any person is welcome and encouraged to participate in any of our small group Bible studies, church outreaches and events, as well as attending any of our weekly worship services. You do not have to be a “member” of our church to particpate with our church. With that said, however, we do hope that you will prayerfully consider joining with our church in a public manner.
Why should you do that? Well, first it offers you the opportunity to publicly confess your commitment to Jesus Christ and his people. Secondly, it offers you the ministry and accountability of a team of pastors (led by Pastor Toby) as well as the servant leadership of our deacons and other leaders. Finally, joining our membership gives you the opportunity to serve others by working with and through our church. As a church member you may take an active role in decisions for our future, in specific ministries, and in using the talents and gifts that God has given you to glorify him and encourage others.
We hope that you’ll join with us. If you would like to do so, you have the opportunity during each Sunday morning worship service. At the conclusion of our service (immediately following the sermon) we enter into a time of invitation. Individuals are encouraged to use that time of worship to respond publicly to what God is leading them to do. Whether they need to profess faith in Jesus Christ, rededicate their lives to Christ, seek prayer with one of our pastors, or seek membership with our church, they are encouraged and invited to make that decision by speaking with one our pastors who stand at the front during that time of worship and prayer.
If you come forward during that time of inviation you will speak with one of our pastors, pray with him, and then be presented to the church as a candidate for membership. Following that public act you will be counseled as to your next step which will involve our New Member Class and possibly baptism (if you have not already been baptized by immersion). We hope that you’ll consider joining with us. We would love to have you! If you would like to speak with one of our deacons or pastors regarding church membership, please do not hesitate to contact us.
