Amy and I are excited to be able to represent FBC Henryville at this year’s Southern Baptist Convention in New Orleans, Louisiana. We’ll be traveling down to Mississippi to visit our family after our midweek worship service on Wednesday, and then we’ll be in New Orleans on Sunday. The annual convention allows messengers from each autonomous local church to have a voice in the business of the denomination, as we work together to spread the good news of the gospel to the nations. In keeping with this mission, the theme of this year’s convention is Jesus to the Neighborhood and the Nations.
The convention is divided into two components over four days – the Pastor’s Conference and the Convention Sessions. Beginning on Sunday we will gather at the New Orleans Convention Center for the annual Pastor’s Conference. This will last through Monday evening, and is a series of worship services and preaching leading up to the official business sessions. On Tuesday morning the business session will open and will last through Wednesday evening. These business sessions include electing a new convention president, convention officers, official resolutions, along with hearing reports from and approving the operating budgets for the various convention agencies that are funded through the Convention.
If you would like more information on the annual convention, or if you would like to watch live webcasts of sessions of either the Pastor’s Conference or the business sessions, you may visit the official website at http://www.sbcannualmeeting.net. I will also be blogging about each day’s activities and posting articles here on our church’s website.
Again, we want to thank all of you for the opportunity and privilege of representing our church family during this convention. Please pray for us as we travel there and back, and as we seek to faithfully serve you over the coming days. We love each of you and will see you when we get back.
