Glorifying God, Proclaiming the Gospel, Transforming Lives

Southern Baptist Convention 2009

May 8th, 2009 | By | Category: Updates From Kathy (Our Local Church Missionary)

Since its organization in 1845 in Augusta, Georgia, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) has grown to over 16 million members who worship in more than 42,000 churches in the United States. Southern Baptists sponsor about 5,000 home missionaries serving the United States, Canada, Guam and the Caribbean, as well as sponsoring more than 5,000 foreign missionaries in 153 nations of the world.  This is what the Southern Baptist convention is all about.  Linking churches together in order to bring the gospel to the nations.

I am looking forward to attending the Southern Baptist Convention this year and representing FBC Henryville.  The convention is the way each Church has a voice in what we do as Southern Baptist.  This keeps the power out of the hands of the few and in the hands of the people.  The Southern Baptist Convention is run by the churches.  This allows the entire body of believers within the convention to make the decisions.  In 1971 we made our first resolution about where we as Southern Baptist stand in the issue of abortion.  We have made many resolutions regarding abortion over the years including one last year.  From issues we face in the Church to the issues we face in the world as a Church we have made resolutions.  You can visit sbc.net and read every resolution we have ever made.

Be praying this year as we make more resolutions as Southern Baptist.
